October Athlete of the Month
Josh Williams
Josh has been with Fit Crew for over four years and is an extremely dedicated client; just this year he has been in the gym almost 200 times! He is consistent, humble, and determined- making him a silent force to be reckoned with. He often puts up top numbers in class and recently he won the 1000m row at our in house rowing competition (whats his secret? it must be the shoes). We’re so happy to have Josh as part of our crew, and love his dedication and positive attitude. Congrats, Josh!
Tell us about yourself.
I’m a native born and raised in Manatee county. I grew up on Terra Ceia and currently live in Palmetto Point. I’m the assistant superintendent at a private golf club in Sarasota. My wife, Jill, and I have been married for 11 years and have two daughters, Georgia (4) and Asa (2). It’s hard to say at this point if they are keeping me young or killing me but I’m head over heels for all my girls.
How did you get started at Fit Crew?
I was introduced to Andrew by the former owner of Electra before they began having classes there. They convinced me to try one of the classes which I reluctantly did, mostly because they said there would be bench press involved. They left out the part about sweating profusely, seeing stars and having a heart attack. By the grace of God I survived those first few classes and was hooked.
What has been your proudest athletic moment?
I grew up playing baseball and football from about the time I could walk. Ball was life, pretty much from then on, until I destroyed my shoulders consecutive years in high school. I think God was trying to get my attention. As I look back there were proud moments from the field, but I think my proudest moments have come from Fit Crew; The first time I jumped on “Big Ben” and didn’t break my leg, finally mastering double unders and bar muscle ups, and really just being able to do actual workouts without dying.
What is your favorite and least favorite movement/lift?
Well I’ve always been a sucker for the bench press, but really I’ve learned to love just about any work out that involves a bar and throwing weight around. Least favorite movement is for sure the hip thruster!!
What do you think makes Fit Crew different from other gyms that you’ve tried in the past?
I think what makes Fit Crew different than other gyms is the people. Everyone is there to get better, and no matter where you are on your fitness journey you can get your butt kicked and get closer to your personal goals everyday. There is a sense of community and mutual respect among all the athletes.
What do you like to do when you’re not training at Fit Crew?
Outside the gym these days it’s just kids kids kids, they’re always there. However, if the stars and moon ever align and I have some free time I love to hunt and fish and watch football.
Tell us a fun fact that we might not already know about you.
I have in recent years become somewhat of a wood working hobbyist/enthusiast. I’m not great at it, but I love to build tables and stuff like that. Sawdust going everywhere, loud equipment, maybe I’ll lose a finger on the table saw, maybe not. I don’t know it gets me going.
