June Athlete of the Month

Jeff Farmer

Anyone who knows Farmer would describe him as being extremely kind, caring, and intelligent. As a medical professional, he practices what he preaches by investing in his health and putting in time and effort at Fit Crew. His hard work has certainly paid off - he's made incredible strength gains in his personal training sessions with Andrew.

Farmer is always generous with sharing his medical knowledge and is known to check in on both staff and clients when they aren't feeling well. He genuinely cares about the gym and is always excited to show or bring in new equipment, talk about fitness news and information, and share his experience with his family - his wife, Holly, and his children, Kim and Anthony all work out at Fit Crew!

Congratulations, Farmer!

Tell us about yourself.

I was born near Columbus, Ohio, graduated high school 1981, spent 4 years in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman, finished college at Ohio State in 1992, met and married Holly in 1996, finished medical school at Ohio State in 1996, finished my residency in 1999 for emergency medicine in Chicago, moved here in July 1999. I have worked in the emergency dept at Blake Hospital since 1999. I was an Air Force reservist until 2007, got out as a major.

No significant athletic background, no high school sports

How did you get started at Fit Crew?

Aimee Hall finally convinced me to try Fit Crew after I met her at work, and I started training with Andrew at the end of January 2015. I didn’t even try to do class until I had been training with Andrew for about a year

What has been your proudest athletic moment?

I really have not yet had a proudest athletic moment. I ran a full marathon in 2016 that I had not trained for, and was impressed with myself that I was able to finish. I did the last 6 miles with a painful stagger, and could not believe I did not get rhabdomyolysis

What’s your favorite exercise? Least favorite?

My most satisfying exercise is deadlifting. I utterly despise high repetition Olympic lifting and lunging with a barbell

What do you think makes Fit Crew different from other gyms that you’ve tried in the past

Fitcrew is unique because of the intensity and variety of the workouts. Most importantly, I have had great results!

What do you like to do when you’re not training at Fit Crew?

Right now I’m working to finish rebuilding two Jeeps at home, and I’m starting work on a Masters degree this month

Tell us a fun fact that we might not already know about you.

I used to weigh 256 pounds
