November Athlete of the Month

Stefanie Masterson

Meet our athlete of the month, Stefanie Masterson! If you’ve been around the gym long enough you have certainly seen Stefanie getting a group workout in, with a stroller nearby or even modifying the day’s workout during her pregnancy. What others might see as reasons to not workout, Stefanie sees as an unique detail that just comes along with her self-care and an opportunity to set an example for her three children. She truly is the walking definition of “When there is a will, there’s a way”. We’re so proud of all that she’s achieved and love seeing her putting in diligent work in the gym.

Congratulations, Stefanie!

Tell us about yourself.

I am a single mom of three children (ages 1, 3, and 6) along with a dog, cat, and 3 chickens (Chickalinda, Henrietta, and Chicken Nugget). I am originally from Ohio but moved to Florida when I was 12. I have two master’s degrees, one in Clinical Psychology and Counseling, the second is Business Administration, and I plan on going back for my Ph.D when the kids are a bit older. I currently clinically manage an outpatient psychiatric clinic along with some other various programs and absolutely love what I do and love the mental health field.

How did you get started at Fit Crew?

Both my Dad (Todd Masterson) and brother (Troy Masterson) were members and I saw how much fun they had. I was getting tired of yoga and running so I thought I would give it a try. God places you in the right place at the right time because after one session I was hooked.

What has been your proudest athletic moment?

I do not have one proudest moment but slowly being able to lift heavier, tackle rope climbs, pull ups, and other movements I was never able to do with no previous athletic background, and after having children amazes me. I am amazed at what my body could still do while pregnant, and look forward to gaining all of my skills back and then some!

What’s your favorite exercise? Least favorite?

I hate wall balls with a passion, but love almost all of the lifting. My favorite lifts are deadlifts and backsquats.

What do you think makes Fit Crew different from other gyms that you’ve tried in the past

I love that Fit Crew feels like family and is very supportive. As a mental health professional I know the importance of self-care, and support. This is one hour of both physical and mental therapy wrapped in one. They will push you to be the best version of you and also modify as needed until you can get there. I don’t know of too many gyms that would have let me work out during my pregnancies and taken the time to modify things for me postpartum.

What do you like to do when you’re not training at Fit Crew?

I enjoy traveling with the kids and getting them outdoors as much as possible. We have a Pinterest bucket list of different state parks and places we have gone and want to go. One of our favorites was hiking the Smokey Mountains in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Tell us a fun fact that we might not already know about you.

I am originally from Ohio but moved to Florida when I was 12 where I was fostered/adopted into a wonderful family. I plan on fostering and adopting down the road as well.
