October Athlete of the Month

Yania Cabrera

Anyone who has been on a fitness journey knows that success can be found at the intersection of perseverance and determination. Yania Cabrera has displayed both of these characteristics since joining our gym in March and her results speak for themselves. Putting her faith in Coach Kourtney’s guidance and showing up consistently, Yania has lost 20+ lbs by following a keto diet and giving it 100% in personal training sessions. We’re so incredibly proud of the progress that she’s made as well as her commitment to recovery and health.

Congratulations, Yania!

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Yania and I was born in Cuba. I came to the states 23 years ago. I am a mom to an amazing little guy, his name is Yael. I have been working in the service industry for as long as I can remember. Although I love to watch sports, I don't have an athletic background - I actually never played any sports in school.

How did you get started at Fit Crew?

I had done lots of damage to my body due to excessive drinking. Part of my recovery was to get my body strong and incorporate training in my new healthy life style, so I reached out to Kourtney for personal training. She is currently my trainer and I love her! I am so thankful that she introduced me to the Fit Crew family and is a part of my journey.

What has been your proudest athletic moment?

Honestly I can't say that I have a proud "athletic moment" yet. I can say, however, that I am proud of the discipline I have gained along the way to make it to the gym and stay consistent.

What’s your favorite exercise? Least favorite?

My least favorite exercise is anything that works the shoulders. I have a shoulder injury so it can be a challenge to find modifications! My most favorite movement is moving towards my car at the end of a training session :). Wait, does that count?

What do you think makes Fit Crew different from other gyms that you’ve tried in the past

It’s definitely such a different gym than any others I have tried. The vibe is very positive and the trainers and staff are extremely nice and attentive.  The equipment is amazing too. Also, how awesome is it that there is a dog!?

What do you like to do when you’re not training at Fit Crew?

I keep busy with my son - he plays baseball and I enjoy it so much. I love spending time with family and close friends and I also like to read motivational books.

Tell us a fun fact that we might not already know about you.

I love love love to dance hola hoops! Since i was a little girl, they were my passion. I can dance it pretty much with any part of my body and with up to three at a time.
