September Athlete of the Month

Renata Barros

Renata Barros joins us from Brazil and has a daughter over at IMG who is currently playing tennis. Renata always has a positive attitude at the gym and is both humble and caring. We’ve been so impressed with how much effort she puts into her workouts and her willingness to learn and try new things. At first, Renata didn’t know how to do a back squat but now she’s mastered all of her lifts, through determination and positivity - you’ll never hear her say “no” (unless someone has asked her to run). One of the most impressive things about Renata is how she has invested in her health. Her daughter trains at the gym, and rather than go run errands or wait for her daughter’s sessions to be over, she uses that time to focus on her own health and well being. Congratulations, Renata - we are so happy to have you in our community!

Tell us about yourself.

I’m from Brazil and I have been living here for 1 year and 8 months - I came here because my daughter intends to be a professional tennis player. Currently I’m studying English so that I can speak and understand better here in Bradenton and then look for a job.

I’ve always liked sports. In fact, I played swimming and volleyball my entire life.

How did you get started at Fit Crew?

My daughter’s tennis coach recommended Fit Crew for a sport specific workout with her - that’s how I found the gym. I had never done this type of workout before joining the gym.

What has been your proudest athletic moment?

Since joining the gym I have exceeded all expectations and have improved my muscle and my cardio.

What’s your favorite exercise? Least favorite?

I do not like shoulder movements, because I don’t have much strength yet and my favorite exercise is the back squat.

What do you think makes Fit Crew different from other gyms that you’ve tried in the past

The coaches make us feel special every class, they give us their full attention and are always there to help correct our form. Honestly, It feels like I always known them. In addition, working out in groups is both exciting and challenging.

What do you like to do when you’re not training at Fit Crew?

When I’m not at fit crew I try to study and have fun with my Brazilians friends here and in Orlando.

Tell us a fun fact that we might not already know about you.

When I started at Fit Crew, I did not fully understand English so it was very difficult for me read the workouts on the board and understand the movements. The trainers always helped me, but it was funny because at first I would imitate those around me. Now, I’m more confident and can do most of the workouts on my own.
