Tell us about yourself.
I’m 32-years old. I’ve been married 8+ years to Katie and we have one kid, AJ. He just turned 1 yesterday (8/22). I’m from Bradenton, my family moved down here from PA only a few years before I was born when my father accepted an engineering job at Tropicana.
I am a project manager / process mechanical engineer for PPT Florida, though my formal education is Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida. I spend predominately all my time working for the two Florida based Tropicana plants (one in Bradenton, one in Ft. Pierce).
I ran cross country and the 1-mile / 2-mile in track & field in high school. I lifted weights (did Powerlifting), but since I ran so much, never really put any weight on / increased strength. I switched to mainly weight training at the main gym at UF during my time in college and put on some good weight, as well as strength, by the time I graduated. Thereafter, I struggled to maintain consistency with exercise and weight training. It’s been a struggle to keep it a part of my daily life for the past decade.
How did you get started at Fit Crew?
I was exercising at LA Fitness off and on before I was invited to Crew by my boss, Bruce Bottorff. He kept after me for over two years to join him, but I was never up to the challenge to try the crazy work outs he was always describing. Eventually, he won 10 free classes at a charity auction and immediately offered them to me to use. I was finally mentally ready to try Crew, so I decided to utilize the 10 classes. It took about 2 classes before I was hooked.
What has been your proudest athletic moment?
Prior to recently, I’d have to say running a 5K in just under 19-minutes. That’s about 3 – 6-minute miles continuously run. This was, of course, back in high school when I was much younger and thinner. If you see me run now, you’d realize how much of an incredible feat this is for me.
Recently, I’d say doing a full squat clean at 250# is my best accomplishment.
What is your favorite and least favorite movement/lift/drill?
I cannot stand rope climbs. The mixture of being afraid of heights and the tiny rope cuts in my hands just does not make my day.
My favorite movement is the squat clean. It’s a great combination of strength and explosive movement – and considering all my strength is in my lower half, it suits me perfectly.
What do you think makes Fit Crew different from other gyms that you’ve tried in the past?
There’s a massive difference between being physically fit and Fit Crew fit. No other gym compares. I’m stronger with better stamina than I’ve ever been in my life, and it’s not a close race.
What do you like to do when you’re not training at Fit Crew?
Like most, I work a lot. But, when I’m able to balance my life’s demands, I love being home with my family. It appears every day my son is learning to do something new, and Katie and I enjoy sharing those moments with him and each other. I used to golf for fun prior to our son’s birth, but I am still struggling a year later to add that back into my life.
Tell us a fun fact that we might not already know about you.
I was valedictorian for my high school graduating class!
